Financial Benefits
of Electric Car
London
Congestion Charge
Electric Cars are
classed as alternative fuelled vehicles and
therefore are exempt from paying the London
Congestion Charge
Parking Discounts
Electric
Cars currently receive a number of parking
concessions with discounts up to 100% for car parks,
metered bay parking and residential and business
parking permits around London and the country.
These are constantly being reviewed therefore please
visit your local councils website for full details.
Running Costs
You will never need
to visit a petrol station in an electric car so you
will save on fuel costs. You will however have
to pay for the electricity used to charge your car
but this can work out to less than 2p per mile.
You can also take advantage of the many free
charging points now appearing.
Typically electric
cars also have lower maintenance costs than
conventional vehicles as they have fewer moving
parts although replacement batteries may be
required.
Vehicle Excise Duty (VED)
VED in the UK is
based on CO2 emissions. As electric cars have
no exhause, and no emissions, they qualify for FREE
road tax.
Company Car Tax
Electric Cars qualify
for the cheapest band of company car tax, which
again is emissions based. At the time of
writing this stands at 15%, less a 6% discount.
Therefore only 9% is payable.
Government Grants
The government has
proposed grants from £2,000 to £5,000 towards the
purchase of electric cars. More details are
expected shortly but it is unlikely these grants
will be available until 2011. For more details
please see out latest news page.
